CFP: 2017 Screen Culture Journal and Cinema Studies Writing Award

FILM CRITICISM (first prize: $300, honorable mention: $150)*


The Oakland University Cinema Studies committee invites submissions for the 2016-2017 Film Criticism Award. Entries may focus on any area of film history, theory, or criticism and must be composed originally for an OU course that counts toward the Cinema Studies major or minor requirements. Entries may be revised between the time of original course submission and the deadline for this award. Winning entries will be judged on clarity and originality of thesis, argumentative persuasiveness, and prose quality.

Formal Requirements:

  • Student must be enrolled in the Cinema Studies major or minor (winter 2016, summer 2016 and fall 2016 graduates also eligible).

  • Essay must be originally written for a course that counts toward the OU CIN major or minor requirements, but not CIN150, ENG250 or ENG260, during the winter 2016, summer 2016, or fall 2016 semesters.

  • Submission should include cover sheet identifying your name, OU major and/or minor, and the course for which the essay was written.

  • In-page citations and Works Cited page should be formatted to Chicago Style standards.

  • Submit essay assignment sheet, if available.

  • Previous winners are eligible.
